This class is designed to advance the student's skills in the Gas Metal Arc (MIG) process, specifically for welding Stainless Steel. Emphasis will be placed on the student's ability to prepare material and perform welding of fillet and groove welds on Structural Stainless Steel in all positions. Practice is geared towards AWS D1.6, Structural Welding Code Stainless Steel.
Upon completion of this course, the students should be able to: Perform safety inspections of welding equipment and accessories; Organize welding equipment and materials for various welding processes; Demonstrate filet welds in all positions on Stainless Steel Plate; Demonstrate groove welds in all positions on Stainless Steel Plate; Perform 3G and 4G positions on 3/8” plate for the welder’s certification test. Passing the test provides an all position qualification to AWS D1.6.
Perform Safety inspection of equipment and accessories
Set-up and prepare material for welding
Adjust machine to correct polarity, wire speed and voltage
Make fillet welds in all positions on Aircraft Quality Aluminum material
Perform GMAW AWS D1.2, Structural Welding Code-Stainless Steel welder certification test coupons in 3G & 4G positions on 3/8" plate
Prerequisites
REQUIRED EQUIPMENT
Intermediate GMAW (MIG)
Each student must outfit themselves in work boots, jeans or heavy work pants and long sleeve flame retardant shirt. They must also bring safety glasses and their own welding gear. (Helmet, gloves, jacket, etc.)
