Advanced MIG (42 HRS)

MIG Welding on Pipe
This class will further advance the students' welding skills to pipe. The student will learn the techniques required of a certified pipe welder. Proper tacks and feather edging, filler metal angles, and manipulations for open root pipe welding are taught.

Class will consist of welding on carbon steel pipe with the GMAW-SC and FCAW processes. Training will be on ER70S solid wire, short-circuit transfer GMAW down-bead root, with E71T-1 flux-cored wire hot-and-fill passes and upward progression. Practice is geared toward certification to ASME IX, Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code, in the 6G position on carbon steel.

Offered at our Maryland and Pennsylvania training locations through our educational partnerships.*

Upon successful completion of the course, student will receive an Earlbeck Certificate of Completion. A certification test will also be administered within this course.  Passing the certification tests in accordance with ASME code standards provides an all-position ASME welder certification.

Objectives

Upon completion, the student should be able to:
  • Perform Safety inspection of equipment and accessories
  • Set-up and prepare material for welding
  • Adjust machine to desired polarity, wire speed and voltage settings
  • Make pad welds in 2G, 5G and 6G positions with GMAW and FCAW
  • Make open root plate groove welds 2G, 3G and 4G with GMAW
  • Make complete pipe welds in 2G, 5G and 6G positions with GMAW and FCAW
  • Perform ASME Section welder certification test coupons in 6G position on 6" Sch. 80 pipe
