This class will further advance the students' welding skills for pipe. The student will learn the techniques required of a certified pipe welder. Proper tacks and feather edging, filler metal angles and manipulations for open root pipe welding are taught. Class will consist of GTAW welding on carbon steel pipe. Training will be with ER70S carbon steel solid wire with upward progression. Practice is geared toward certification to ASME IX, Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code in the 6G position on carbon steel.

Upon successful completion of the course, student will receive an Earlbeck Certificate of Completion. A certification test will also be administered within this course. Passing the certification tests in accordance with ASME code standards provides an all position ASME welder certification.
Objectives
Upon completion, the student should be able to:
Perform Safety inspection of equipment and accessories
Set-up and prepare material for welding
Adjust machine to desired polarity, wire speed and voltage settings
Make pad welds in 2G, 5G and 6G positions
Make open root plate groove welds 2G, 3G and 4G positions
Make complete pipe welds in 2G, 5G and 6G positions
Perform ASME Section IX welder certification test coupons in 6G position on 2" Sch. 80 pipe
*Intermediate and Advanced welding classes, offered through our college partnerships, include certification testing as part of the course. Students must pass all required tests in accordance with AWS and ASME code standards to earn welder certification.
PREREQUISITES Fundamentals of Welding Intermediate Gas Tungsten Arc Welding
REQUIRED EQUIPMENT Each student must outfit themselves in work boots, jeans or heavy work pants and long sleeve flame retardant shirt. They must also bring safety glasses and their own welding gear. (Helmet, gloves, jacket, etc.)
