The welding process produces smoke that you can visibly see- this smoke contains metal fume and gas by-products. Welding fume can contain Aluminum, Antimony, Arsenic, Beryllium, Cadmium, Chromium, Cobalt, Copper, Iron, Lead, Manganese, Molybdenum, Nickel, Silver, Tin, Titanium, Vanadium, Zinc. As well as Argon, Helium, Nitrogen, Carbon Dioxide or Nitric Oxide, Nitrogen Dioxide, Carbon Monoxide, Ozone, Phosgene, Hydrogen Fluoride, Carbon Dioxide.

Exposure to these fumes may be affected by a variety of factors such as the type of welding process, the base metal and filler metals used, welding rod composition, worksite location, personal work practices, air movement, and use of ventilation controls.

The health affects of exposure to welding fumes can be serious if not properly diluted or extracted! They can result in eye, nose and throat irritation. They can also cause dizziness and nausea. Prolonged exposure may cause lung damage and cancer. And if that’s not enough to worry, certain fumes may cause metal fume fever, stomach ulcers, kidney damage and nervous system damage, or even Parkinson’s–like symptoms. Gases like helium, argon, and carbon dioxide displace oxygen in the air, potentially leading to suffocation if welding in confined or tightly enclosed spaces.

A great way to prevent these adverse affects is to invest in a fume extractor. Ace Industrial Products has tons of options for convenient and effective fume extractors at affordable prices. The 73-200M Portable Fume Extractor and the 73-701 Mobile Fume Extractor are two of our favorites from their line! Read on to figure out which fume extractor is best for your location or welding process!

The 73-701 Mobile Fume Extractor is great for any welder looking out for their health and safety.

This compact and mobile fume extractor works like a charm for both production AND jobsite TIG, MIG, and stick welding! Featuring two output settings and a 10 foot fully articulating, self-supporting arm, mobile extractors and downdraft tables are best suited for continuous production welding processes.
It is also equipped with a 95% (MERV 15) main filter for use on all forms of steel. Optional HEPA efficiency main filter is also available for Hexavalent Chromium control. The analog filter status gauge lets you know when its time to change filers.

Highlights:
- 800/950 CFM two speed extraction power
- Built in spark trap for fire safety
- 95% (MERV 15) efficiency main filter with high capacity pre filter
- Easily moveable with 5” durable swivel locking casters
- All steel outer cabinet with dual handles for durability and easy lifting

It accommodates 9 different filtering combinations for maximum flexibility in all types of applications. Includes a HEPA main filter as well as a pre filter that extends the life of the main filter, with a convenient LED filter status light top let you know when its time for a change. Comes standard with a 12 foot extraction hose with flexible nozzle assembly, but if that isn’t long enough extra lengths can be added.

Portable extractors are the best choice for jobsite work, maintenance welding, and production benchwork.

Highlights:
-
190 CFM high vacuum fume extraction
